EVstudio Participating in the Big Chili Cook-Off 2011

EVstudio will be participating in Evergreen's 10th Anniversary Big Chili Cook-Off on September 11, 2011. From the website:

The 10th Annual Big Chili Cook-Off, Music & Arts Festival will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2011.

This year's event will again be held at the Evergreen Lake House, located at 29614 Upper Bear Creek Rd. in beautiful downtown Evergreen.

This spectacular day features a chili cook-off competition, live music, the Firefighter's Challenge competition, juried Art Show, photo booths, and children's activities.

Gates open at 10:30 a.m. with chili sampling beginning at noon. Live music will begin at 10:30 a.m. and run continuously until 6 p.m. A Fire fighter tribute will be held at 2:30 p.m. and the Chili Cook Awards at 4:15 p.m.

10th Annual Big Chili Cook-Off, Music & Arts Festival benefits the six Mountain Area Fire Departments and the Blue Spruce Kiwanis Foundation.

Tickets may be purchased online and at the gate on event day. Tickets will also be available at King Soopers and Safeway (Evergreen and Conifer) until 6pm on the Saturday preceding the event.

2011 marks the Tenth Anniversary of the Big Chili Cook-off Music and Arts Festival. When we gather for all of the usual fun on Sunday, September 11th we will also be commemorating the 10th Anniversary of the terrorist attacks on our country. When the towers fell in New York City, 343 firefighters lost their lives, and after ten years we want their families and our country to know that the mountain communities have not forgotten the lives that were lost, while trying to save others.

Join us for this bigger than life, better than ever celebration to honor those who have given so much, and to tell our own fire and rescue teams that we are proud of the work they do and honored to have them living in our midst. Wild Ivories Fund Raiser for National Sports Center for the Disabled

The Wild Ivories Dueling Piano Saloon that we designed is opening. Wednesday, June 2 is a fundraiser for the National Sports Center for the Disabled. It'll be a great time at 14th and Market and they're open full time starting June 4, 2010.

Take the Polar Plunge – If You Dare

At high noon on New Years Day at Evergreen Lake, snow or shine, you too can jump into the cool waters for a Polar Plunge! You’d be joining several local personalities, some more notorious than others, in their New Year’s Day bath in the icy Rocky Mountain waters. This event is a partnership with Drive Smart Evergreen/Conifer, Evergreen Fire/Rescue, Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, and Evergreen Park and Rec District. This is event is a fund raiser for Drive Smart Evergreen/Conifer and the Evergreen Parks and Recreation District Special Needs Program. Tickets are $25 per person ($35 day of event). Anyone under 18 will need written parental permission (waiver). Waivers will be available December 1st.

A 10-foot by 10-foot area, six feet deep, will be cut out of the ice and equipped with platforms and ladders. Jeffco Sherrif’s Department’s Captain Ted Mink will supervise. People will be able to jump in 'heats' (no pun intended). What do you get for $25 you might ask? Well, you get bragging rights (priceless) and a commemorative event shirt. In addition, Caffe De Lucca is offering hot chocolate for everyone who comes in with their event shirt that day.

To chicken to jump? Kristina Halstead, who uses a wheelchair and has Cerebral Palsy will take the plunge for you along with her father, Bob Halstead, and friend Rod Schreiber. Kristina plunged last year and raised over $3,000 and was highlighted on Channel 4 news, with Alan Gionet. Mr Gionet will once again be the emcee and plunge also. You may also pledge for friends, co-workers etc.

It turned out to be a fantastic day at the Beaver Ranch Park in Conifer for music and fun on August 1st. EVstudio was proud to be able to contribute to this great community event and to see the success of it grow over the last three years. Our friends Bud and Claire Moore with American Craftsman Log Homes got us involved and we look forward to participating again next year. Maybe Dean's band, Open Space will even have a chance to play one of the slots (better start practicing now!)

On a side note, when Sean worked at Semple Brown, he designed the lobby addition to the Center Stage building that the Chorale performs in. The building is fairly interesting, starting as a music camp, the original structure was built in 1924. There have been a number of additions, adding a larger stage, green rooms, restrooms and finally the larger lobby that is there today. The original building is almost completely enclosed.

EVstudio participated in Milender White's golf charity event at Fox Hollow Golf Club. We are happy to be a part of a charity that raised over $30,000 for various children charities. Unfortunately, our team of Greg Arbour with KLG, Carl Boone and Justin Boone with CandL Development and Jim Houlette with EVstudio came in last place and earned the 'OOPS' prize. But we had a great time and we look forward to next year!

2009 AIA Denver Design Awards Gala

AIA Denver is hosting its Annual Award Gala on September 11th at the Pepsi Center. Bruce Fowle, FAIA is the jury chair this year.

This is my fourth year as chair of the AIA Denver Awards committee and the eighth year on the committee. I recently attended the awards jury in NYC and we've got some great winners.

EVstudio Course on Understanding the New Denver Zoning Code Approved for Real Estate Broker Continuing Education

EVstudio has produced a course on what real estate brokers need to understand about the new Denver Zoning Code and form based codes in general. It has been approved by the State of Colorado for one hour of continuing education (CE).

Upon completion of the course, the real estate broker will:

Understand how a form based code differs from traditional zoning
Know the latest on the time line for adoption of the code
Be familiar with the seven neighborhood types
Understand the new naming conventions
Be familiar with the building forms
Understand the likely impacts and strategies for property owners

If you are buying or selling real estate in Denver, you should understand how the building code is changing, and you might as well get the hour of CE. Over the next few weeks we'll be working with Realtor associations and real estate offices on offering this seminar to their members. We'll also have a session put on by EVstudio.
